No other architectural project type has the scale, relatability and every day appreciation of a residential space.

At a more basic or primitive level, very few species are so critically dependent on shelter as the human race. UDW creates homes that transform the lives of their inhabitants with a laser-focus on the neighborhoods and the community we love.

The single-family residential realm also affords many opportunities to intimately connect materials, daylight, landscape, events, memories, furnishings and families in the most condensed and compact volume of space possible. The human scale and liveability of a home is critically important to the success of a project.

Partnering with our clients and their builders, we focus on marrying the house to the site in terms of placement, light, outdoor living, views and privacy. Connection to the environment is of preeminent importance, as is the use of sustainable materials, energy-saving construction methods and cutting-edge design.

INSPIRED RENOVATION

Renovations offer their own unique set of opportunities and challenges. UDW takes pride in creating magic within the limitations of an existing house. We honor what is there, and make the most of the inherited site orientation, existing structural elements, environmental setting and footprint to deliver homes that are often unrecognizable from the previous dwelling.

Many of our clients face significant challenges with easements, zoning, permitting, site and budget. We serve as a steady, experienced guide through the planning and permitting process.

As-Built
Drawings

Before you can design the home you want, you must document the home you have. As-built drawings serve as the foundation for each residential renovation or addition.

Construction
Drawings & Specs

We carry the architect-client-builder relationship through to construction drawings and full project specifications, including all materials and finishes.
