CEDAR HOME

A stunning renovation in North Boulder with a distinctive roofline.

CHALLENGE

The split-level residence at 1830 Cedar in North Boulder, Colorado was drab and poorly laid out with zero curb appeal. Buyers Debbie and Stewart were new to not only Boulder and this house, but also the US. With no existing network or understanding of US construction regulations and processes, they relied on Greg and Uitto Design Workshop to lead them through a daunting renovation.

APPROACH

Armed with an extensive questionnaire and data gathered from multiple in-person planning sessions, Greg dove into the project with gusto. Completion of illustrative sketches and design concepting dovetailed with assembly of a team and research into the limitations of the structure and lot. Blending Stewart and Debbie’s wish list and style aesthetic with the realities of the site and budget, Uitto Design Workshop delivered an eye-catching new design for the home and administered the full construction process with a trusted builder.

RESULTS

Stewart and Debbie were thrilled with their new home. The renovation transformation flooded it with light, connected the interior and exterior, and created a vibrant front profile with a distinctive roofline. Pleasant, liveable spaces flowed naturally and made the best use of the odd split-level footprint with new stairs, an expanded basement level, and repositioning of rooms to maximize useability. The house with the striking roof and bright teal front door continues to draw attention today and is one of Uitto Design Workshop’s most recognized homes in Boulder.
