KNEALE ROAD

The resilient mountain residence that could.

CHALLENGE

The vision for a ‘forever’ home along the banks of South Boulder Creek was clear for property owners, Barbara and Chuck.  Unfortunately, they were challenged by a surprising number of unique development hurdles and construction regulations (over the course of 10 years). Greg and Uitto Design Workshop was able to navigate the bureaucracy and evolve the house design from concepts to completion.

APPROACH

Regularly scheduled meetings with Barbara and Chuck helped reinforce and remind the team of the vision we wanted to achieve in the final design. Each iteration of the home design was a coordinated response to a new external force or regulatory limit as well as a simultaneous affirmation of the family’s goal.  Uitto Design Workshop provided a design that met the exceedingly high bar of County regulations while preserving and honoring Barbara and Chuck’s dream for a seamlessly integrated, custom home within this picturesque mountain setting.

RESULTS

Barbara and Chuck enjoy being home.  A home that reflects their vision. A home that is positioned within the valley floor, just above creek so that from almost every interior space one can hear the sounds of flowing water and wind blowing down the canyon walls.  From the custom cut timber roof beams, to the wrap around, flagstone patio that hugs the floodplain boundary, each and every detail recalls the homeowners’ wish-list.  Every room embodies a special sense of place.  Nearly a decade in the making, the completed home is a testament to patience, vision, and dedication to great design.
